Cornucopia Farm

Hello, thanks for stopping by.

We established a farm 10 years ago, on 11 acres, calling it Cornucopia Farm sitting on the historic Snickersville Turnpike in the tiny town of Philomont, in northern Virginia. Two years ago we had a date to meet each other on the front porch of our home; the rocking chairs were ready; Dom Perignon was waiting to pop its cork; we looked forward to making a toast to our mutual retirement from the business world and watch the sun go down. What a great journey to embrace together.

Well, here we are two years later, working harder than we did on our day job but enjoying every minute of it; we have not stopped digging and planting. We have established a small vineyard. John planted blight resistant hybrid chestnut trees, with some chestnut seedlings from Thomas Jefferson’s historic chestnut grove. One of our favorite customers is a renowned owner and executive chef of an elegant restaurant in Washington, D.C. who regularly lists our chestnuts on his menu. In addition, John planted almond; filbert; pecan; black walnut; English walnut; apple; apricot; nectarine; peach; pear; mulberry; and plum trees.

Every spring, John meticulously maintains a large produce garden that steadily supplies our roadside stand with an abundance of goodies (despite the recent drought) that carries us to frost.

Come Spring, Diane proudly fusses with her 22 varieties of peonies; 35 varieties of daylilies; 20 varieties of gladiolus; 30 varieties of bearded irises, 7 varieties of zinnia’s and her magnificent formal specimen perennial garden which is the basis for our spectacular bouquets.

We have an exciting family of chickens, ducks, geese, two female border collies that spend their days herding deer, fox, fowl and even customers and Tess, our calico cat, who controls the rodent population (everyone works on Cornucopia Farm).
